The IRAI Herbarium, founded in 04 of october of 2007, has in the collection botanical species colected in the Irai Ambiental Protection Area and in the Afonso Pena International Airport, both of them located in the metropolitan region of Curitiba, PR, Brazil. Also keeps a program of exchange of duplicates of botanical material with other brazilian institutions. The scientific collection is properly cataloged and identified by specialists of the Botanical Museum of Curitiba (Museu Botânico Municipal de Curitiba). The Herbarium is an unity of Newton Freire Maia Park (Parque Newton Freire Maia), an science center aiming the public understanding of science and, for this reason, it might be considered an didatic Herbarium that develops programs of scientific education for students and teachers of the basic education and graduation.
